The Bluebirds bounce back !

After losing to Burton four days earlier, Brian Barry-Murphy’s men managed to beat Leyton Orient 4-3 in an extraordinary match. Let’s take a look back at a very eventful afternoon at Cardiff City Stadium.

Fourth before kick-off, Saturday afternoon’s match seemed to be of paramount importance in the race for promotion for Cardiff City. Strong gusts of wind swept across the capital, as if heralding an epic battle on the pitch, accompanied by a big-game atmosphere, and the crowd were right to turn up. The match began and the two teams engaged in a relentless duel with action in all directions. But it wasn’t until the 20th minute that Callum Robinson opened the scoring with a fine pass from Chris Willock. But nine minutes later, Gabriel Osho, who was back from injury, played a back pass to his goalkeeper that lacked power. Aaron Connolly pounced on the loose ball and beat goalkeeper Nathan Trott to equalise for Leyton Orient. Brian Barry-Murphy’s men went into the break with the score at 1-1.

A very eventful second half

The Bluebirds came back from the dressing room with high ambitions. In the 52nd minute, defender Dylan Lawlor scored a beautiful goal from outside the box after a run that only he knows how to do. But there was barely time to celebrate as, just two minutes later, the defence cracked again and failed to defend Mizouni’s shot. This surprising goal was followed by another, even more spectacular one from Dominic Ballard in the 61st minute. The Leyton player scored with a magnificent left-footed shot into the top corner, putting the English side 2-3 ahead.

But at Cardiff City Stadium, you have to be able to hold on until the end. With Brian Barry-Murphy making three rather offensive changes, the Bluebirds seemed motivated again. From a superb cross by R. Colwill, Yousef Saleh, who had come on four minutes earlier, deflected the ball with his head to equalise in the 69th minute. The crowd pushed them on, and two minutes later, Callum Robinson scored his first brace of the season from a fine pull-back by Kpakio. The Bluebirds held on for 26 minutes until the final whistle and the joy of the supporters, who will not soon forget this extraordinary match

In addition to the excitement, this is also an important victory in the standings, as Cardiff City is now third in League One, two points behind leaders Stevenage. Their next match is against another Welsh club, Newport, in the EFL Trophy next Tuesday.
